Training Doesn't Have to Be Draining!
If training sends your eyelids into freefall, perhaps it's time to rethink how it's delivered. The best learning keeps people awake, engaged and eager to know more.
Let's be honest—we've all sat through training sessions where the most exciting thing happening was watching the clock. Endless PowerPoint slides, walls of text and someone reading every bullet point aloud can turn even the most important subject into an endurance event.
The irony is that care training couldn't be more important. Whether you're learning about spinal cord injuries, autonomic dysreflexia, catheter care or moving and handling, the information can genuinely save lives. But if learners are fighting to stay awake, how much of that knowledge is actually sinking in?
A little humour, storytelling and visual learning can transform the experience. People naturally remember a funny cartoon, an amusing observation or a real-life scenario far longer than a slide packed with text. When learning is enjoyable, curiosity takes over—and curiosity is one of the best teachers there is.
That's the philosophy behind Fellow Carer. We've designed our spinal injury training to be informative without being intimidating, professional without being dry, and memorable enough that learners can confidently apply what they've learned when it matters most. Because training should build confidence—not boredom.
What's the most memorable (or painfully forgettable!) training session you've ever attended, and what would have made it better?
