Cartoon #022: Stool Type 1
If you've ever felt like you're trying to pass a handful of marbles while the clock is ticking... congratulations, you've met Stool Type 1.
Those tiny, hard, dry pellets don't just make you question your life choices—they're usually your bowel waving a little red flag. Type 1 stools are a classic sign that things are moving too slowly through the bowel, giving it plenty of time to steal every last drop of water. The result? A painful, frustrating performance worthy of Lionel's Oscar-winning scream. For many people, the answer is surprisingly simple: more fluid, more fibre, more movement... and sometimes a review of medications if they're contributing to constipation. Ignore it for too long, though, and those little pebbles can become much bigger problems.
In our bowel management training, we teach carers and healthcare professionals how to recognise these subtle clues before they become uncomfortable, painful—or even dangerous. Sometimes the toilet tells you more about your health than the bathroom mirror ever could.
Be honest... what's your go-to trick for getting things moving again when your bowel decides to play hard to get?
