In this module, Abena takes the trainee from the start of the client's journey - or the incident, right through to the discharge.

3.3 The Operation

The subject of operation details is beyond the scope of this training and avoids talking about Laminectomies and associated procedures. But touching on this stage of the journey, adds gravity to a patient's journey in the mind of the trainee.

3.5 Discharge Preparation

Here, we help the trainee to appreciate the planning that goes into discharging a client and the home changes  and adjustments that are necessary to help the client live their new life.

3.2 Hospital Admission

The presenter explains how the client would be transported from the scene of the incident to a specialist spinal unit and pinpoints the available hospitals in the UK.

3.4 Patient Counselling

Here, the presenter addresses the serious mental health challenges a client will face after their accident and the counselling involved in their rehabilitation.

3.6 Patient Discharged

Here we hope the trainee appreciates how daunting it must be for clients leaving the safety of the hospital environment, to move into the world and manage on their own.
